Sipho: One of the lucky ones

We would like to introduce you to Sipho (photo: middle child), a child whose life has been transformed because of your kindness and generosity:

Sipho’s story

“I am one of thousands of children in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Most of us are taken into informal foster care by members of our own communities who often do not have the money to provide food, clothes and schooling.

Most of my friends and I attend unregistered crèches that are not recognized and because of this the government cannot help support us.

I am one of the lucky ones. I attend the Siyazama Crèche run by MaNkize. It’s only because of the generous gifts from people like you that Save the Children has been able to assist MaNkize. She gets a monthly food voucher but still has to pay the other ladies who help her to run the Crèche.

I feel very proud to wear my school uniform that Save the Children buys me at the beginning of every year.  We also receive healthy meals every day and are taught fun things that help us to learn."

The impact we are making

Because of generous hero’s like you we are able to transform the lives of children like Sipho.

Save the Children is in the process of rehabilitating and equipping centres to provide children with a more child-friendly learning environment.  To date we have reached 1,350 crèches in KZN.

We have impacted on the standard of care and development provided to over 40,500 young children. And with your support, we could do more. Commit to making a difference by setting up a monthly donation today:

Our core focus

Child Protection

Child Protection

South Africa is marked by high levels of violence and exploitation of children in places where they should be safe. All children should thrive in a safe environment.

Health & Nutrition

Health & Nutrition

No child under the age of 5 should die from preventable disease and all our children deserve long-term good health.

Children's Rights

Children's Rights

Insufficient resources prevent children from achieving their rights as enshrined in the South African Constitution. We are campaigning for a strengthened child-rights system.

The quality of education in the foundation years has a lasting impact and we are working hard to ensure that every child receives quality basic education.
